Insurance problems while studying abroad (UK/Scotland) with Diabetes Type 1

Hey everyone,

I'm a 21 year old, soon-to-be international student, from the Netherlands. I got an offer from a university in the United Kingdom, and am planning to go to university there for the course of four years. However, and here is the tricky bit, insurance turns out to be a major issue; To summarize, my current insurance in my home country will not be usable in the United Kingdom. I will therefore have to find a private insurance company in the UK (Scotland, to be precise) that will cover pre-existing conditions such as Diabetes Type 1. However most insurance companies I have spoken to thus far have stated that they do not cover expenses from pre-existing conditions. As I am a student, I'm also on a bit of a budget which makes it very difficult to find a suitable insurance. Is it at all possible for international students with Diabetes to get insurance in the UK? I assume the reason why most insurance companies do not take on people with Diabetes is because of the costs of treatment outweighing their profit margin. I'm at a loss here, and will probably have to cancel my plans to study abroad if getting insurance will be incredibly costly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My apologies in advance if the point I'm trying to get across is hard to understand, English is not my native language and I know hardly anything about all this insurance stuff (other than what I know about my current insurance plan).
