I had an endo appointment earlier this week and my endo strongly recommended that I go to a pump for 2 reasons: 1) I'm highly sensitive to insulin so I'm using very small doses (1u:25g carbs, 1u:100mg/dl correction) and a pump would help me dose more precisely than syringes with 1/2 unit markings. 2) I'm doing 4-5 injections per day (1x Lantus, 3-4x Humalog). Endo said a pump will cause less scar tissue than MDI.
I have 2 questions. First, is it true that a pump will create less scar tissue than MDI?
Second, I have a fear of pumps based on the horror stories of random pump failures/issues. How often do pumps have problems? Is it a normal occurrence or is it extremely unlikely? My endo reassured me that it was rare, but couldn't provide any concrete info.
For reference, I currently am using the Dexcom G5.
