So, I guess I'm a diabetic now. I'm kinda scared.

I just got a call from my doctor after having blood tests done this weekend. His nurse tells me now that I have to take 10 units of Lantus, go on a low-carb diet, exercise, etc.

I've been on Metformin and Glimipiride now. I'm going to go pick up my paper prescriptions from him after work this afternoon. I've been looking up how much it would cost to fill this Lantus prescription, and the pens cost $215 for a 90 day supply through my plan's mail order pharmacy.

My mom and dad are diabetic, and they were in the medical profession. They're retired now. I'm definitely going to hear it from them because they warned me about what I was eating, etc.

The nurse said my A1C was over 10, but didn't give me the exact number. I'm about to find out.

I'm just hoping that by looking through some of the posts here in this subreddit that this isn't a death sentence. But my question is....is Lantus the best? Is there an alternative to Lantus that I can help save cost?
