Dexcom G6 + Omnipod + Apple Watch. What data goes where? Which system(s) should make the decisions?

I started using the G6 on Tuesday (yay first CGM), and so far it's a game changer. I have it integrated with my iPhone/Apple watch, and I'm loving it so far, but I have a few issues and questions.

  1. Where should my data 'live'?
    1. Obviously the Dexcom keeps track of all my sugar, but should I be entering my 'events' in there too (carbs, insulin delivery, insulin, etc.)? The G6 App on the iPhone has by far the best interface of any diabetes devices I use, but I don't want to needlessly enter data if it has no benefit.
    2. Is there any benefit to entering this data into the G6? Today, I input everything into the Omnipod, which makes all the insulin dosing decisions. (If my sugar is trending down, and I tell Dexcom I just ate some carbs, does that have any impact on alarms, etc.)
  2. How do I get the best metrics?
    1. I'd love to see a graph of insulin dosage vs blood sugar, vs carb intake, vs exercise. Unfortunately, insulin & carbs lives on the Omnipod, blood sugar is on the dex, and exercise is on iOS.
    2. I'm not particularly looking for a hacked-together solution that would require jailbreaking or some other device.
    3. There's a G6 App option about sharing data with Apple Healthkit (on a 3 hour delay). Has anyone tried this? How are the graphs? Are they easily extracted/exported?
  3. How often should I be inputting my blood sugar from my Dexcom into my Omnipod?
    1. Previously, I'd test directly on the Omnipod, so it would have all my sugars. Now, the CGM takes over 300 measurements a day, so I've only been inputting into the Omnipod if something is funky, or I'm looking to dose/eat.
  4. Connection to Apple watch issues.
    1. It seems like my Apple watch complication only displays my Dexcom readings about 50% of the time (but my phone always has it and doesn't lose signal).
    2. I have the Dexcom app always open on my phone (and open/active when I lock my phone - iPhone 7), Dexcom complication on my watch face, and Dexcom app in the Apple watch dock. Is there any way to imporive this?
  5. Bedtime - iPhone might not sound Lost Signal Alert
    1. The iOS Dexcom App warns that the Apple phone may not sound the lost signal alert, which scares me during sleep time. For that purpose alone, I've been booting up this receiver. Is this best practice? Sometimes having 2 devices alarming is annoying, but it's better than dying in my sleep!

Any advice here is welcome! I love my new rig, but I don't think I'm getting the most out of it yet.
