101 mg/dl Fasting Glucose result, Should I be more worried than my Dr.?

Hello,

I am 26/m and recently had some blood-work done, and got a 101mg/dl fasting glucose level. I contacted my doctor as I hadn't yet received any news about besides looking up my own test result. They simply responded that it was slightly above normal and to exercise and lower my carb intake.

Looking online 101 is prediabetic, so I expected my doctor to say something more, or give me a diagnosis or something. I'm kind of freaking out about it, is it not that big of a deal?

- I have a pretty poor diet, and will make some changes (cut out soda, and empty carbs and sugars most of the time)

- I exercise pretty hard for an hour 3 days a week, and walk frequently during the work week

- I am not overweight

- I don't have high blood pressure

Am I at some immediate risk, am I doing irreversible damage to myself? Is diabetes now an inevitability?

I appreciate any help you can give.
