I got pulled off to the side at work today by my boss, EHS, and facilities manager to be told that a concern report was filed against me for giving myself insulin in the lunchroom. While I heat up my food sometimes I prepare my needle and injection to be a little quicker. I realize to many people this looks very "medical" and unsanitary. I got asked to do my injections in the bathroom, to which I immediately said no, because it's not a sanitary concern. Also why should I be inconvenienced because one person doesn't like the way it looks?
I always use alcohol pads to prep my needle/pen and wipe up any residual blood, ON MY STOMACH, then dispose of the alcohol pad. All my used materials stay in my meter bag until I can dispose of it in a sharps container.
It's infuriating that someone who has no knowledge of what I am doing can complain about me, because it looks unsanitary. Listen lady, my blood that's on an ALCOHOL PAD will be killed instantly. Even if it isn't, you ingesting blood on your kale and beets salad will not magically give you AIDS.
This is my first time running into someone who voiced a concern over me using needles in a public space.
People are stupid and the worst. 😠😤😤😤😤
