Loss of Consciousness in My Sleep - Low Blood Sugar

The scariest situation of my life happened about a month ago and it took me until now to process it and be able to talk about it.

I don't have a CGM, nor pump. Last year, I had been in the process of getting a CGM but lost my insurance and fell on hard times. I want to preface this story by saying that I do take my blood sugar regularly throughout the day and I'm not quite sure what happened with my dosage on the night it happened. I've never had a diabetic episode of this magnitude in the 32 years I've been diabetic.

I went to bed alone one night. My ex bf and I were living together at the time. He was in the office gaming until late. He came into the bedroom and went to sleep. At about 5am, he said that he woke up to me making gutteral noises. He felt my skin and said it was extremely cold and I was shaking. He turned on the light and I was foaming at the mouth, not responding to anything.

I slowly started to come to at about 6am. It was all very hazy. I first heard the EMTs and then saw them in glimpses when I would come to and then pass out again. When I finally came to, the EMTs were just leaving the bedroom, my ex was propping me up to give me food and juice. The EMTs had initially taken my blood sugar and it wouldn't even read on their meter. They gave me glucose and checked my blood sugar before they left. I was still shaking and freezing. I kept asking if the EMTs were there because of me. I kept apologizing and I was embarrassed. I was really confused for about the next 30 minutes. I had sweat through all of my clothes. After I felt sturdier, I got up out of bed and realized that instead of sweating through my clothes, I had actually peed my pants.

There are so many "what ifs" in this story, it scares me. I thank God that my ex woke up and realized something wasn't right.

I've been scared to sleep the whole night through so I've been waking up in the middle of the night to check my level. When my insurance starts back up, I'm restarting the process to get a CGM.
