Hello everyone!
I am new to this sub and have searched for this answer but haven't seen much...it seems like there are many who are having touble affording insulin but what about the suplies for the pump itself? (Reservoirs, tubing, etc.)?
A little background: I have been T1D for nearly 20 years and my father is T1D as well. I just turned 26 so I have been on his insurance for a long time. I recently got my own insurance through my job and they cover my sensors 100% and my insulin is pretty cheap (usually vials for $50).
What is killing me is the pump supplies. Even with insurance it is $600 for a 3 month supply and that is just for me. It is another $600 every 3 months for my dad. I found out my parents were behind on the payments for the supplies and I had to pay their $5000 bill up front because medtronic was going to withold the supplies until it was paid. So now I have spent $5000 and we are expected to essentially pay $1200 every three months for my father and I's pump supplies.
Does anyone know of any programs to help foot this bill? I have searched online and cannot find any help.
TLDR: Pump supplies are expensive and insurance in America is a joke. Any tips?
