Diabetic Trying to Build Muscle

Hey guys just hoping for some general advice about growing muscle for diabetics. 😁

I started working out about 5 months ago, (i'm 34, 5' 11", type 1, started at 128 lbs) looking to gain weight and muscle. Since then I gained close to 20 lbs (current weight 147 lbs). My back and shoulders are a bit broader, but I don't see any significant gains in muscle growth; chest is flat, arms are pretty much the same size. I'm a diabetic and have had some trouble keeping my blood sugar under control while upping my calorie intake (currently eating between 2200 and 2400 cal). I've adjusted my insulin dose and am doing much better now. I feel like I've failed a bit in changing the way my body looks and am hoping to start fresh with a new work out routine, improving my diet, and keeping my blood sugar under control.

Any tips or advice for a diabetic trying to build muscle?
