Started feeling a little out of sorts, so I had a relative who has Type 2 test my blood on their machine, and got mid 400s.
Went to the ER after not eating for about 12 hours, and they clocked me at 288.
ER doctor says "Try to keep it under 250" and puts me on metformin 2x a day at 500mg.
I go to my regular doctor who tells me to slowly up it to 2000mg a day (currently a 1000mg a day), and puts me on 2.5mg Glyburide twice a day, because the blood test they did said my average mg/dl was around 300 for the last 3 months, and the A1C (I think?) Clocked me "At about 10".
I was getting 130-190 on the metformin, but after being on the Glyburide for 2 days I'm getting 110-120 numbers. I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, given I've just abruptly changed my diet and habits and the Metformin already was lowering it pretty well with diet. I had to google to find out what Glyburide even did.
Thing is, my doctor didn't tell me what numbers are normal when it comes to the low side, just set me up an appointment again in 6 weeks, and said she'd have a dietician call me. No recommendations on eating beyond no sodas, low carbs. The only numbers she gave me was "Under 180 as of 2 hours after eating, and aim for under 140 fasting."
Okay, so what's the low end of good? 110 the first night had me shaking like a leaf, but tonight 113 2 hours after eating has me feeling fine.
I'm lost, and google is not always full of helpful advice and just venting I guess but I really don't know what's normal here and I'm prone to anxiety to begin with so that's not helpful.
The relative with Type 2 is under control enough she can drink soda and eat fast food without really worrying so they're not that helpful either, but I'm getting lower numbers than them at times.
TL;DR: No one really explained the basics, and just threw pills at me.
