A1C goal

I'm an endocrinologist in training and want to get broader perspective on A1C goals. Our training generally focuses on getting A1C less than 7%. Maybe in some younger people with type 1 less than 6.5%, if not having too many hypos. In older, frail patients and/or those with hypoglycemia unawareness, we would adjust the A1C goal up to 8 or 9%.

Keep in mind, most patients referred to endocrinologists are on multiple medications including insulin.

What is your goal? Has anyone ever said your A1C was too low? Is there such a thing as too low in your mind for type 1 or type 2 on medication?
