Due to some skin integrity problems on my arms I had to move my Libre sensor to my thigh to give my arms some device-free time. I know a lot of people really like wearing Libre on the thigh and I have seen a study that says that thighs are even roughly as accurate as arms.
But for me, I have had nothing but problems with my sensors since changing sites. The main thing that happens is that the accuracy really degrades over the life of the sensor. They will be reasonably accurate for 5-7 days and then suddenly I can't trust them at all. Sometimes they read 2 mmol/L (~30 mg/dL) low, sometimes 4 mmol/L low (~70 mg/dL), on one occasion 10 mmol/L low (~180 mg/dL) (!), and sometimes they are reasonably accurate (within 1-2 mmol/L or ~15-30 mg/dL), and I never know which it will be at any given scan so the trends are a bit useless as well). The sensors are all still firmly attached when this happens. If I have to test my finger every time I want to know what my BG is really doing, then I might as well not be wearing a sensor in the first place.
At first I thought it was just bad luck, but I have used Libre for over a year prior to this and had hardly any issues at all with accuracy, and suddenly 4/6 sensors start to fail after the first week right when I start using them on my thighs? I feel like that can't be a coincidence.
Anyway, I was just wondering if other Libre users and particularly alternative site users have had similar issues or have any ideas what might be causing it?
I will be putting the sensor back on my arm on the next rotation so maybe the problem will solve itself. But in the future I will likely need to rotate between back of arm and some alternative site every 30 days or so, so this could be an issue again if I can't figure out what's happening.
Edit: made it clear what units I am using.
