Hey guys. I was recently diagnosed with type 1 three-ish weeks ago. DKA was a big wake up call to me healthwise and I really want to lose weight and manage my glucose with low carb.
So my question is... is it safe to have sugar free foods/drinks? Any noticable effect on blood glucose? I always heard they were dangerous somehow but now that I'm looking around and it seems to be mostly inconclusive. Also read the book 'the obesetity code' a few years back that mentioned a reaction similar to sugar in the body but have yet to see spikes in blood sugar from it. Any long term effects I'm missing? Aside from the occasional weird after taste sucralose seems too good to be true lol.
Leaning on sugar free is a bit of crutch but I figure its better than caving and spiking my blood sugar to 300 (like I did on my birthday :'( )
