Figured out a carb count for amoxicillin 400mg/5ml oral suspension

Nowhere in my area carries the sugar free version, so when my son got a cold, that morphed in to a sinus infection, had no choice but to treat.

No one had a carb count (pediatrician who prescribed/endo or pharmacy) so began the work of “guess, and REALLY try not to kill the kid”.

Thankfully, after three days, I was able to deduce how much insulin was needed. Since he is such a little diabetic (weighs 42lbs) his IC ratio is on point as every carb counts for him (still young enough where he has zero freebie foods), so I can say, without a doubt in my mind, that amoxicillin 400mg/5ml oral suspension is 1.69g per ml dose. My son takes 10.1ml, so needs insulin for 17g.

My guy is a tiny though...and if I were reading this, knowing how ever carb counts and how insulin works with him, I might start at 1g per ml, and work my way up, because that’s how I roll (I trust no ones skills with him as much as my own). So not really giving a carb count, as much as a basis to start from, so your littles don’t shoot over 500 like mine did. Chasing highs and stacking insulin is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy
