I just by chance checked my daughter's bg and found out she is diabetic.

So I've been diabetic since 1992 at the age of 10. I've been on an insulin pump most if my life and on Dexcom for a year or 2 and it's been a game changer. Saturday night about 9 pm I had a sensor that for some reason showed me dropping down in the 40's and I could tell by the way I felt that there was no way that was the case. I drag out the old trusty bg machine to check (bg was 189...thanks for the bad sensor dexcom, they've already got a replacement coming) and as I'm sitting there my 12 yo daughter walks in the room to talk to me. She was watching what I was doing because I don't calibrate very often anymore with the g6. She asked if it hurt to do it and I said not really. I ask her if she wants me to check her blood so she can feel it for herself. She agrees and goes to wash her hands. I dig out what I'm pretty sure is the second box of lancets I've ever owned out if the drawer to give her a fresh one and proceed to poke her finger. 5 seconds later 549 pops up on the machine. I think that there's no way, so I grab an alcohol swab and try again with the same result. I tell my wife and off to the ER we go. I tell them why we're there and they do their thing and proceed to hook her up to machines. A few minutes later they come back and confirm that her blood sugar is high. They giver her some insulin to bring it down and start to ask about her symptoms and why I checked her bg. They were shocked at the situation as the only symptom she had was excess thirst. Looking back over the last few weeks I could see a few others like rushing to the bathroom but never thought much other than she's a pre teen girl with poor time management. I hate that she's having to deal with this, and I hate even more that it's basically my fault. I am however thankful that we caught it super early as she barely even had ketones in her urine. I guess realistically I should thank Dexcom for the faulty sensor because otherwise I wouldn't have had my machine out and she would've never asked about it. I've been in the hospital with little sleep for awhile now and just wanted to share the story with Reddit since I've had to tell it to pretty much everyone that's come into her hospital room this weekend and could hardly believe it.
