Trying to understand, learn, and prevent. Help is appreciated.

So, many apologies if I come off as ignorant to this at any point.

It's because I am.

I just received blood test results that my A1C level is at 5.7 - barely prediabetic (0.1 over normal range), but still prediabetic.

I have a history of Type 2 Diabetes in my family. My Sister, Dad, Grandmother, Aunts all suffer from it and they all range in weight/healthy/unhealthy lifestyles. Due to knowledge of this history and just personal enjoyment/interest, I have always been what I'd like to deem as healthy and active (and I do understand that that does not equate to being safe from diabetes). Do I have my moments where I eat a whole pizza? Of course. But it's very rare and I'm always back to the chicken and veggies after. I drink casually maybe 2 times a month every couple of months. Meaning I'll have months where I don't at all.

I'm a bodybuilder, lift 6-7 days a week, cardio has ranged from extensive to nonexistent depending on if I'm cutting down or building muscle. I love to bake and it keeps me in control of ingredients- so IF I eat sweets, I keep them as a rare indulgence, and keep them low sugar or with sugar subs - I am aware certain sugar subs can raise blood sugar so I try my best to stay on erythritol or stevia, but I do prefer a pack of Splenda in my one coffee every morning, which I know isn't as great as erythritol, admittedly not sure the real impact though.

I am a relapsing energy drink addict, which I understand can affect all this as well. At MOST I stick to one only a day (there are days I don't have them at all) and its zero sugar and the sugar subs are a blend of erythritol and sucralose - pretty much what I stick to outside of energy drinks as well (Does caffeine play a large role? I'm sure it must, it seems it affects everything). I am fully capable of quitting the energy drinks as consistently as I've been using them, I know they are bad for me.

My issue is when I look up how to reduce my A1C levels or help get back under prediabetic range, ALL of the suggestions are to exercise, watch my portions and cut sugar. I do all of those already, I count my macros and calories, exercise daily and am very mindful of sugar/sugar subs, so I am just unsure how to help myself here. I'd like to take steps in the right direction to help myself out as best I can.

Thanks so much in advance and I hope I put this plea for help out in the correct way. I am looking forward to learning from you all.
