hey guys, i’m a 23 year old male, 5’ 7”, 140lbs, fairly active and only recently stopped going to the gym. i gave up alcohol for a year and only recently started occasionally drinking beer again. i don’t smoke or do any drugs. my diet has been bad my entire life and my uncle did develop type 2 diabetes later on in his life. he’s the only other person in my family who had it to my knowledge.
i have some anxiety and depression issues and have been eating less and less for the past year which has caused me to go from 165lbs to 140lbs. this concerned me so i went to my doctor and decided to get bloodwork done.
my doctor called this past tuesday and said i’m on the verge of being prediabetic. he did not give me any solid numbers besides saying i was in the high 90’s and told me to get more exercise and the number will go down.
i of course immediately did a bunch of research on it and what foods to eat. i bought as much of the typical low carb, low sugar diabetic foods i could find in stores during this virus pandemic. completely cut out all fast foods, sodas, processed foods, and have been giving it my best attempt so far for the first week.
i have a second blood work test scheduled for tomorrow morning to confirm that i am currently fasting for. i did get pretty drunk the night before my last test and then got mcdonald’s but i still fasted for 12 hours afterwards. i’m honestly hoping that getting drunk maybe threw my numbers off for the following day but i know that is wishful thinking and most likely not possible.
i’m fully ready to commit to this lifestyle and avoid diabetes for as long as i possibly can but i guess i’m just writing this to introduce myself and see what anyone else thinks of my situation.
