Anyone else not realize how serious diabetes is?

I have had type 1 diabetes for 22 years and I feel like everyone around me feels my diabetes is more serious than I feel it is. My A1C is good (6.1) and my doctor says I'm handling things well... I don't know... Especially with COVID and being labeled as comorbid... It feels like I don't realize how serious this is? Anyone else feel this way? I'm really conflicted; I want to be positive but I also don't want to be naive. And yes, I know all the side effects of T1D... Guess it's just hard when it's a daily reminder. Can we discuss?
