Hey friends,
I'm a T1d doing MDI (relatively new diagnosis)
I have a dawn phenomenon question. I have started seeing a pretty sharp rise (say for 5-6 to 8-9mmol) within a few minutes of me waking up. Not slowly over the night but basically once me eyes are open and my feet hit the floor.
I'm experimenting with a correction bolus as soon as I wake up and am just increasing this amount slowly. Usually 1 unit of novorapid would take me down 5mmol but this morning I gave two and it barely dropped me 1.5mmol.
But my question is, does an early breakfast help with this? Usually I might wait an hour or two, or not have breakfast at all. However I've been googling this morning an a few anecdotal sources say that breakfast sens a message to your body to stop sending whichever hormones it is that account for the rise.
Thanks :)
