My worst experience yet! 500 mg/dL going into DKA

I was at a friends birthday party in mid February, and we were having a great time! I had packed an in crust able because I freaking love them and I don’t like hotdogs. ( I’m weird I know ) It was an outdoor party, so I knew I would most likely be dropping most of the time. Nope. Right at the start of the party, my Omnipod got bumped on a guest, I didn’t think about it much at first. Halfway through the party I’m on the upwards 220’s and start to be mildly worried, but I thought I would drop like a brick after all the running I had done. After doing insulin for a slice of cake and waiting 10-15 min, I ate and went back outside. After 30 min my Dexcom read HIGH ( meaning I was at 400 or above ) My dad comes at 8 to pick me up. I go home and immediately check for ketones. The pad was PITCH BLACK. I start to panick and went and drank 3 glasses of water and ran for 30 min on a treadmill. The. I fingerprint and that’s when all heck broke loose. I was at 574 mg/dL. So life threateningly high. I get told to just go to bed because it was about 11 at night now. Every 1 and a half hours my dad would wake me up and we would fingerprick, correct, and go to bed. I started to go into DKA around 2:30. I knew this because I started to hyperventilate when I sat up. I took one sip of water before I go to bed and throw up my entire stomache. I felt miserable. Renee and repeat for 4 times until 5:30 AM. My dad calls the portal at Van Meader Endocrybology and talks to dr Lowe, ( Dr. Lowe, if your reading this, UR DA BOMB ) he says to change my pod, so we did and the sight of the cannula was shocking, It had snapped in HALF. I wasn’t getting any insulin and that’s what had caused my misery. I changed my pod, did a massive correction and slept until 10:30. Then, I woke up, had brunch, went to take a nap, and..... drop like a brick right to 45!

I’m all right now, definitely the worst I had ever been, at diagnosis I had caught it early and was only at 356 mg/dL.

That’s how I almost died she. I was 12 yrs old in feb 2020
