What is/are the worst experience(s) you have had with an insurance company, if you have had one?

Just last month I had my first encounter - I was running low on Novolog because they shorted me a pen in February ("It's a month with two fewer days, so we're gonna take away over a week of your life juice") and then I suffered halfway into March. I ran on 40 units of insulin (which is almost a day for me, on a day where my blood sugars are nice to me) for a week. I ate lots, lots of eggs and cheese. And meat. I think I ate straight chicken for a whole day. I've heard worse stories, and my heart always hurts for those people - just didn't think it'd happen to me so fast. I've heard from some of my veteran t1d friends that this is something you will get used to, but I would like to hear some more war stories.

On a side note, my insurance company decided to switch up on me and change what kind of basal insulin they support. I have been using Lantus, but they switched it to Basaglar. I've been using what's left of my Lantus, but soon I'm gonna have to switch. Has anyone gone through or is going through something like this seen any differences in the two? Effectiveness, lower blood sugars in the middle of the night, if it stings like Lantus used to do in the beginning, etc. I know a lot of this is a person-to-person sorta thing, but I'm just curious. I just got diagnosed September of last year so I'm still a diababy.

Thank you, thank you! :)
