Hello - I was wondering if anyone has any tips for weight loss with Type 1 Diabetes. I have been struggling a bit to lose weight (I'm about 20 lbs from where I would like to be - I'm 5'8"/175cm at 170lbs/77kg - male). I had a meeting with a diabetes-certified nutritionist and I ended up coming out a bit more frustrated than I did going into the meeting in regards to how to lose weight (the topic itself was not exactly addressed).
In short, I was told was I was under-dosing my insulin... which I agree with and acknowledge. However, from all my years with diabetes (now 25, diagnosed at 4), the understanding I had was that less insulin will usually keep you thinner - however, if not done properly it is obviously not healthy.
What asking is what are other Type 1's experience with weight loss? How do you lose weight with Type 1 while still keeping your numbers in range, and without withholding insulin? How low carb do I need to go? If anyone is open to chatting about that, that would be super helpful! Thanks! Or if you could refer me to any other forums/blogs/sites that would be helpful too.
