How can I make it up to a diabetic girl for being responsible for her father not being with her when she got the dosing machine?

Hi everyone,

My workmates daughter was recently diagnosed with Diabetes. He is a fantastic father & has been working hard to be there for her & learn how to help her manage this.

Not being citizens yet, he has paid out full cost for some machine that can monitor her blood & dose according. It has cost him over $9000.

Today the girl had an appointment to have the machine connected and the father had planned to be there with her. He had to work through the appointment and it is my fault. She had it put in without Dad there.

Usually when we screw up in my job we just buy beer for whoever, but it strikes me that the person most affected here is a 12 year old girl that probably wanted her father’s attention at a scary moment in her life.

I would really appreciate some insight into what I could possibly do to make up for keeping Dad away. I suspect that this kind of thing might hurt her relationship with her father, so my goal is to help repair that.
