Another show that doesn't know how diabetes works

I recently started watching Virgin River on Netflix and the main character is a nurse. A boy comes to her for help because his grandma is not feeling well and she's diabetic, of course no mention of type because that's not a thing on TV. They get to her house and she's feeling dizzy so the nurse gives her a glass of water with sugar because she think she's having a hypo. I thought, great! They got it right for once, but nope hahahaha. Immediately after she starts explaining that she hasn't been checking her sugars and that she's not using insulin because she doesn't like the injections. And the nurse is there like; right, no insulin, that's why you are so low on sugar.

What?? How is it possible that she's so low on sugar if she's not using insulin at all? Is it really that difficult for shows to understand how insulin works? It's so frustrating, because they where so close to getting it right...
