Hello everyone,
the last days been kind of a roller-coaster for me and I don´t know who and what to believe.
Short background: 29, Male, 190cm, 95kg, doing some sport but not enough, eating not so great (lot of bread, pizza, fried stuff, eating late at night), feeling often tired/dizzy after eating and need to nap. In my family we have a couple of diabetic (grandpa, uncles). I am from Europe but I live in Asia at the moment. The quality of doctors here is not the same as in Europe or the US...
I did a blood test a couple days ago. Results were:
HbA1C is at 9,1%.
Fasting Blood Sugar at 103 mg/dL
After asking me a few questions the doctor said I have diabetes and gave me a prescription of METFORMIN 500 MG 3x per day. After I researched a bit online I thought its strange that my fasting blood sugar looks not too bad and did not take any of the medication yet.
I went to another doctor today to get a second opinion. The second doctor had a look at the lab results and then tested my sugar levels (it was 2 hours after I ate breakfast) and it was at 95 mg/dL. He said I am not diabetic and should not take any medications, just eat more healthy and do more sport. He said maybe the HbA1C test was wrong.
I am now a bit confused on what to do or who to believe. Are there any other tests I can do which could help determine I have (pre-)diabetes or not? Is it possible to have such a high HbA1C but not be diabetic?
Thanks for your time!
Jack
