The nurse called me today with my lab results from my test on Monday. It was confirmed that I have diabetes, which I suspected. The main symptoms I had was dry mouth, always being thirsty as a result. And, more recently, pins and needles, and sometimes numbness in my feet. They prescribed metformin, and I was supposed to get another pill but when I went to the pharmacy only the metformin was in and blood testing supplies.
Anyway, I guess I'm posting because I'm looking for advice about my diet. (Or any advice really.) She also told me that I had high cholesterol. So, for the diabetes, obviously they want me to have a low sugar diet plus a low fat diet because of the high cholesterol. Admittedly, I am not a very healthy eater. I like to snack a lot. Although, since suspecting I was diabetic, I have stopped drinking mountain dew, and other sugary drinks. I cheat occasionally but it's still like 90% less than I used to. I've been trying to eat more things like baby carrots, or celery instead of things like chips. But, still I feel like this is a major night, and day difference I'm having to suddenly make.
I don't really cook much, I like quick and easy foods. And, I also don't have a lot of money to spend on special, more expensive, foods. Do you have an recommendations on some of your favorite healthy foods? Not just for snacks, but also satisfying meals that aren't too difficult to prepare? Any other general advice you think I should know? Anything is appreciated. Thank you.
