Spent 24h in hospital after ER visit because I felt like crap. Blood glucose was 414. Waiting on antibody. A1C was 12.6%. All other bloodwork normal.
No family history of any diabetes. I'm super healthy. 180lbs, 6 feet. Eat very little carbs or sugar so this is obviously quite a shock to me. Don't really fit profile of Type 1 or 2.
Endocrinologist thinks could be Covid19 related. I had undiagnosed Covid in December 2019. All the symptoms including crazy loss of sense of smell and taste.
Antibodies positive a few months later.
Apparently some early evidence that "long Covid" can affect Thyroid or Pancreas resulting in the respective diseases.
Right now on Lantus and Lispro, both via pens. Simple 3x a day check and insulin via sliding scale. Clinic appointment end of week where we'll discuss path going forward. (Got a lot of info in hospital, everyone was super great).
Injecting insulin is easy. Finger pricks suck. The hospital one time lancets were ok. Now have Accue-Chek FastClix, which is awful. Always need multiple tries before it draws blood or enough, despite cranking it to level 4-5.
So yeah, general recommendations or just kind words are much appreciated. This kinda sucks. Thanks.
