“It’s better than being dead.” Thanks that makes me feel so much better

Ugh I hate being told that. I get that my loved ones don’t know what else to say, but really? That’s like you fell and hit your head and now you have headaches all the time and someone says “hey it’s better than being dead!!! :D”

Wow thanks, it’s such a privilege being alive with a lifelong illness. It’s not like it’s a daily chore or anything, or even physically painful at times. At times, yeah I’ll think that, but not all the time! What other person knows where a lot of their own veins are on their body? We do after putting in a port or a needle and bleeding out afterwards. Or when you have a port and the plastic need grazes on top a vein, it’s touches it but not enough to break it. Do you know how painful that is? And having to do that again in another 3-4 days? Woooow better than being dead right? Doesn’t that statement make you feel human? Doesn’t make you feel that you’re nothing more than just a machine that attached to you? Don’t you feel understood? Doesn’t it make you feel like you’re only alive to take care of yourself and you can’t actually live?

Stop telling us this is better than being dead, we deserve to be heard. How dare you devalue my life like that.
