The fact that people have been working on this in secret, rather than releasing information and breakthroughs to the world as they discover/make them, means that the watch is going to take much longer than it would have otherwise. And this is why I hate Capitalism. It breeds competition, which breeds distrust, which leads to isolation and a preference of individualism over collaboration.
Sorry for the rant, I've had a beverage or 2 and this stuff annoys me. ... very happy this stuff is being worked on, though! Silver lining and all that.
