Boyfriend just got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes today.

He's pretty distraught over it and I've already told him that it isn't a death sentence and that he can lead a long and healthy life as long as he takes care of himself. He hasn't been to an endocrinologist yet, but his PCP is setting up an appointment for him. They didn't even give him a test kit so that he could start checking every thing, which kind of irritates me, but I'll probably go out and buy him one tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm trying to be as supportive as I can but I need to know what else I can do to help him. I've already told him that any lifestyle changes he has to make, I'll try to make too.

Another thing is that we play in a band together and I know that high activity can cause a spike in blood sugar, so I'm concerned about that too.

TL;DR boyfriend was diagnosed with type 1 DB, need tips on how to help/be supportive/emergency care/etc.
