How do you approximate carbs when you go out to eat?

I was diagnosed as type 2 a little over two weeks ago. I have gotten my blood sugar down from 381 to 129 (fasting) and under 150 for most of the day. I have been very careful about what I eat. Anything with carbs I measure with a scale or looked up before I ate. I am meeting friends for dinner tonight and I am a little nervous. I know one meal won't destroy me, but I want to be careful until I know my A1C is okay (it was 12.8). I can stick to a salad, and might, but I looked at the menu and I would love to have some pasta. I have not had that kond of food since my diagnoses. Am I going to derail myself eating some pasta? Is it best to stay very strick? Am I worrying too much, lol?
