Hello, i am newly diagnosed type 1 as of three days ago and this is my first day taking insulin. My a1c (i didnt know what that was 3 days ago) is a life threatening 11 and i am serious about getting these very bad numbers down so i dont you know, die. I have cut my carbs to negligible amounts and started walking a few miles each morning.
Anyway, I was prescribed 8 units of Humulin N to take once in morning and once before bed and my doctor is going to adjust my dose based on my readings, (a first step before i can get an endocrinologist appointment and diabetic counselor and all that). I took my 8 units for the the first time and it took my body destroying fasting glucose of 177 ( was in 200’s before i changed diet) down to 113 when i measured it 6 hours later(a measure at the 2 hour mark yielded no difference in blood sugar)It is still holding around that level at 9pm. The problem is i feel rather “off”, for lack of a better term. I don’t know how to describe it other than just feeling unwell. I am due for my 2nd shot before i go to bed in an hour and am starting to wonder if maybe i should skip it since i am not feeling great already? I am concerned how much the 2nd dose is going to lower my blood sugar when i am sleeping, and i know it can lead to a coma or whatever if you get too low. But i also dont want to skip a dose my first night taking this and return to my body destroying fasting glucose levels. It’s the weekend and my doctors office and pharmacy closed right now so i can’t call there for advice. I’d appreciate any suggestions anyone had, and sorry for the wall of text.
