When my blood sugar is "normal," I feel terrible

Background: 36, 5'1, 107lbs, better than average diet, less exercise than prior year due to injury & illness. Neuro had glucose challenge after dx of SNF, came back wildly pre-diabetic, wants me to see endo urgently. Testing 5-7x/day with home glucose meter while waiting for appt w endocrinologist.

Every time I feel hungry and shaky, my blood sugar is in a normal range (and I mean normal range for normal people, not normal range for diabetic/prediabetic), whether I'm testing for fasting or non-fasting. Shaky, starving hungry, like my heart is in my throat a bit, a little scattered in my thoughts. Yet I just tested 2hrs after eating and got a fantastic 115. Last night I ate, went out and chainsawed for an hour, felt like utter shaking weak shit, tested... 122. In comparison, the day after Thanksgiving I decided screw it for just a while, ate allll the stuffings and pies. Tested at 165, yet I felt comfortable/full/clear-headed/energetic for the few hours afterward.

I also have small ketones in urine regularly in spite of drinking 2-3L of pure water throughout each day.

If it matters for a few years now I eat relatively little and get full very quickly, only to be very hungry again just 1-2hrs later, so I'm continuously eating small bits throughout the day, and waking up due to hunger during the night.

Is this hunger cycle and feeling crummy with normal blood sugar levels part of the poor insulin/glucose management body process? It sucks.
