Devices that upload blood sugar readings to the cloud

How do you feel about companies such as Livongo or One Drop? These are the ones I'm most familiar with through use. If you're not familiar, they are subscription-based blood sugar meters that you pay monthly without the need for insurance. They're unlimited strips as long as you are testing. Everything is logged through apps and the internet. After each test, your BG level is uploaded as well.

Are there any more mainstream companies that upload readings to the manufacturer as well? Asking because, these are the only two that I've used that do this. My older model Freestyle Lite and One Touch Ultra Mini have no connection to the internet. It's all logged on the device.

While I enjoy the ease of subscription-based companies to send strips whenever needed based on use, my main concern are my readings being sent to a database with my name attached to it. This may sound a bit conspiratorial, but if the ACA ever gets repealed and insurance companies gain the ability to discriminate based on pre-existing conditions again, this may be very bad for diabetics that are out of designated ranges.

We all know the political climate changes over time and healthcare is often bound to it. I guess what I'm trying to say is: I don't like my meter sending my numbers to a database somewhere.

Thoughts? Thanks for reading.
