My dad had above knee double amputation in June 2017 due to complications from diabetes. He is very overweight and also has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, low calcium & polymyalgia. His blood sugar levels are consistently above 20 despite being on insulin. His diet is bad, but he refuses to change it.
I’m really concerned for him as ALL he does is sleep all day. He does absolutely nothing. The house has been adapted for him and yet he still makes myself and my mum do nearly everything for him, except wipe his ass. Unless he’s eating, he’s asleep. He can’t keep his eyes open at all, often falling asleep while someone is talking to him and even when administering his insulin.
I’ve done some research because I was getting concerned for him and read that the average life expectancy for a diabetic double amputee is only 2-5 years. Anyone know how true this is?? Am I right to be concerned that he’s approaching the end of his life?
