Anyone else have better glucose control with alcohol?

So prior to being diagnosed I was a pretty dedicated functional alcoholic out of boredom. I quit drinking on the road to DKA while undiagnosed, but after diagnosis and getting used to insulin for a couple weeks I was pretty bored with quarantine and started drinking again.

I had a couple hypos at first but generally found my blood sugar control was better with alcohol - more predictable and less likely to go high (I know this is due to liver things). I've only been drinking hard liquor with sugar-free mixers, to the tune of a quarter through three quarters of a fifth a day.

I stopped drinking for a couple days and it was like WTF? Sugar running 40-60 higher than expected after meals. I don't want my liver to stop working but it's not really doing many favors.

I've also found that in some weird way, I like the drama of hypoglycemia. I'd rather have my sugar be 62 and munch some chips than have it be 190.
