CGMS for a type 2 diabetic paying out of pocket? Dexcom and Libre.

So my father is really struggling with his glucose management and I've really struggled to get him to get any kind of compliance with his finger pricking. He absolutely can't stand it and says "I need my fingers," and he just absolutely won't stand for it. In the last month, he was supposed to check his glucose 60 times. He checked it exactly zero times. He frequently gets up in the 300s and I just can't stand it.

Anyways, I looked into getting him the Dexcom g6 and he was saying that he would be a lot more likely to do something like applying that sensor 3 times a month than ever spiking his finger again. However, upon learning that because he's type 2, his insurance probably wouldn't cover it, the out of pocket price would've been about 4k a year. He could easily afford this, but he refuses as "I ain't gonna live much longer anyways." Hopefully you can understand my frustration. I was wondering, with the other types of cgms like the freestyle libre, and I understand there is one by medtronic and one by eversense that gets implanted? He has been put on different kinds of insulin because of the lack of success with getting it down, which apparently is supposed to be how the insurance decides if they'll cover any of it? His provider said he would be willing to write a prescription but that his insurance probably wouldn't pay for it since he is a type 2.

Is the libre any more affordable, maybe using those pharmacy savings cards? What all has to be replaced and how often?

Please any help I am grateful for. I genuinely fear for his health.
