Hey r/diabetes, One of the largest insurance companies in my state only covers continuous diabetes treatment as a medical benefit.
I’ve heard stories of other diabetics in similar situations, and frankly, this has to stop. To show insurance agencies like Wellmark BCBS that continuous monitoring is the future of diabetes care, I’ve started a petition demanding that Wellmark cover CGMs as a pharmacy benefit.
My hope is that if we get enough signatures for CGMs, that a windfall for all continuous diabetes care will follow. And that if we can convince one large Iowan insurance company, we can convince the nation as well.
Everyone deserves access to continuous diabetes treatment without having to pay thousands of dollars a year. It’s unacceptable that even insured individuals can’t get access to life changing supplies due to their cost.
