I have been on the cusp of diagnosis for years, and I knew it would happen eventually since it runs in my family. I was officially diagnosed the end of January with diabetes with an HbA1c test result of 6.8% ( 6.5 per cent (48 mmol/mol) or higher is diagnostic of diabetes in Australia).
I was so bummed, but dived in and made changes. Started taking Metformin, switched to low carb, less than 15 grams per meal, and in the last 3+ months I have lost a ton of weight and just went in to get my latest blood test to see how I am doing. I was a little concerned about my cholesterol and blood pressure, since I have been eating more fat and less carbs, but all was great!!! And my Triglycerides halved in those three months!
My cholesterol was down. My liver and kidneys were better. And my HbA1c was down to 6.2%, which is still obviously high but is in the pre-diabetes range rather than the diabetes range. Feeling very happy and good about where I have landed, especially since I am settling in with my new diet. :)
Just had to share.
