I’ve had T1 Diabetes for almost 12 years now. It never affected me much. My blood sugars and A1C were always good and it was easy to keep them that way. I’ve noticed since becoming an adult that my blood sugars fluctuate a lot and I often feel like I’m not taking the time to figure out why. (This may be partially due to my mom not being on top of me the way she used to now that I’m an adult.) I eat pretty healthy for the most part, I just don’t have a whole lot of structure. I eat whenever I get hungry and give insulin accordingly. If my blood sugar is high, I correct and if it’s low, I drink juice and get it up. I feel like it’s not good for me to just respond to my blood sugars with insulin and carbs. Like I need to control my blood sugars. Not my blood sugars control whether I take insulin or juice. How? Any tips or even just encouragement. I’m having a really hard time motivating myself to put a routine or anything in place. My diabetes used to be so manageable and I could be pretty flexible with when and what I ate.
I guess what I’m trying to ask is what routines and motivation do you guys use to make your diabetes more manageable as an adult? Thanks all :)
