Hello all! I have been wanting to make a general post in regards to formal diabetes education. Particularly for those I’ve seen asking for help that are newly diagnosed. I encourage you to go to your PCP and ask about formal diabetes education in your area. I am a diabetes educator at a hospital in my city and I encounter numerous patients who found out about our program through a friend/family/neighbor etc. I’m finding often that PCP’s are not offering this education or maybe forgetting that it exists. So please, advocate for yourself and inquire about some education from trained CDE’s (certified diabetes educators). This is much safer than asking random people their opinion on Reddit. I’ve seen some pretty poor advise, which is opposite from what we teach. I know these people mean well, but remember they aren’t actual diabetes educators, so be careful who you take advice from. Thanks!
