Tldr: Living in Afghanistan and recently found out that my fasting blood glucose level is ~210. The clinics here cannot specify the type of diabetes. how dangerous it is to take oral meds if I am type 1? Or just take oral meds by assuming I am type 2.
I have been losing weight since April/May and drinking gallons of water a day. I never suspected I had diabetes. I used to have a sedimentary lifestyle and was weighing 230 lbs (5’8”, 28 yos). I used to drink 1-2 L of coke a day and eat lots of carbs. I weigh 177 lbs now. My mom has also type 2 diabetes.
I was a graduate student in U.S. and I moved to my home country recently. My friend (he is a doctor) told me to get my blood sugars checked after I told him that I have random tingling pains. None of the laboratories here can perform C Peptide or any other tests to specify diabetes types.
My friend suspect I have type 2 diabetes as I fit most of the type 2 criteria. My question is how dangerous it is to take oral meds if I am type 1? I will be returning to US in December to finish my PhD and I can do the tests there.
Edit: weight loss was unintentional. My fasting glucose level was 98 two years ago.
