After 5 years im finally getting the hang of it

Ive been struggling with my diabetes for almost 5 years now. I was diagnosed at 17 my junior year and have had many hospital stays and near death calls. Well today i met with my doctor and she told me my A1C was 5.5 and decided to take me off of my short acting and give me a weekly insulin instead along with my long acting. Has anyone ever gotten completely off their meds? I feel like im going in a good direction and dont want to get my hopes up thinking that one day i can become diabetic free. My sugars after eating today were 91 which NEVER happens with me. I feel so proud of myself and just wanted to share. Thanks.
