I'll be switching from MDI to pump next month and just have a question about the amount of insulin I'll be taking with the pump vs MDI.
Disclaimer: I will be attending training and know this will be covered, I'm just curious right now and wanted to ask.
I've read that the conversion for MDI to insulin pump is somewhere along the lines of 50%-60% of your total insulin will be basal on the pump and the last 40%-50% will be bolus.
I'm currently taking 18 units basal and average 4 units bolus throughout the day. It ends up being more like 80% basal and 20% bolus. Does this really not translate directly over to pump? Sounds to me like when I change to pump, I will use less insulin for basal but more for bolus. Is this accurate?
